Human Connection and Productivity: How FDLC Uses AI to Enhance Both

FDLC’s vision is to build a better world by doing work we love, for people and causes who inspire us, in a way that lets us live the lives we want to live.

Artificial intelligence presents enormous opportunities for us to better fulfill this vision by freeing up time to focus on work that we love and live the lives we want to live. While we should always leverage this technology to be more productive for clients, we should never attempt to replace what our clients value most: our experience and insight, our creativity, and our personal connection and commitment to their organizations.

In broad terms, we will use artificial intelligence for tasks that normally require a human to perform like a computer, but we will not pretend that AI can make a computer perform like a human.  AI should enable us to spend less time wrestling with software, and more time engaging with people.

What AI Can Do

We will use AI tools primarily for:

  • Processing large amounts of information quickly (long reports, datasets, complex searches)
  • Automating repetitive or labor-intensive tasks that don’t involve creative input or analysis (transcription, metric reporting, etc.)
  • Formatting documents, reports, social media calendars and other deliverables
  • Uncovering emerging trends and best practices
  • Refining and updating existing content

Any outputs from AI must be reviewed carefully for accuracy and completeness. At the same time, we can use AI tools to do the same for our own work – checking completed work for accuracy, suggesting improvements (which can always be rejected), and even optimizing our interactions with AI itself by analyzing the effectiveness of SEO and GEO strategies.

What Humans Must Do

While we may use AI tools to assist, FDLC’s most important work will always come from people:

  • Writing
  • Design
  • Strategy and Advice
  • Crisis Response
  • Relationship Building

These areas require human judgment, empathy, creativity, and an understanding of your audience that AI cannot replicate.

Of course, AI is rapidly evolving, so our use of it should, too. As you come across possible new uses or new tools we should explore, bring them to the team for discussion. We’ll continue to evaluate both opportunities and threats from this technology together.
